![]() Faculty George H. Karam, MD, is the Paula Garvey Manship Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine in New Orleans. Dr Karam attended medical school at LSU, and he completed his internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center. Upon completion of his training in 1983, Dr Karam returned to the LSU School of Medicine. By appointment of the medical school, he now serves as Head of the Department of Medicine at Earl K. Long Medical Center and as Program Director for the LSU Internal Medicine Residency in Baton Rouge. Dr Karam’s major career interests are in the areas of medical education and bacterial resistance. His efforts in the field of education have been acknowledged by 15 consecutive graduating classes at LSU selecting him as the Best Clinical Professor. The recent focus of his scientific pursuits is directed toward the clinical aspects of bacterial resistance.
